Chicago restaurants may now be setting an extra place for canine customers.
The City Council on Wednesday approved an ordinance that allows dogs to dine al fresco in licensed restaurants.
The new ordinance takes effect on Jan. 1, although al fresco dining will not be a very popular choice at that time of year.
The ordinance does not permit dogs to travel through indoor portions of restaurants, nor outdoor portions that were not designated as dog-friendly areas, and the dogs must be on a leash.
